Welcome to The Surrey Signal
I think it is fair to say that when it comes to hyper-local digital communication and community-focused online commentary, I have always been slightly ahead of the curve.Years ago, I founded the Surrey Residents Network, a hyper-local media and citizen journalism portal designed specifically for the County of Surrey. While some of the original channels for that network have since evolved, the Facebook page remains an active hub where I continue to report on life across the county. This is often—though not exclusively—viewed through a local political lens, a direct result of my two decades of public service.
My perspective is informed by 12 years at Surrey Heath Borough Council, where I served at a senior level, followed by 8 years at Surrey County Council, also in senior leadership roles.

The Road to 2027
I have not "blogged" in the strict sense of the word for some time. However, as we enter a transformative era for our region with Local Government Reorganisation, it occurred to me that a dedicated blog would be an essential tool. It allows for a deeper dive into the "inner circle" activity leading up to, and beyond, Vesting Day on 1st April 2027.
I will be standing in the shadow authority elections on 7th May 2026. However, regardless of the election outcome, the knowledge I have built up over twenty years in the machinery of local government is something I want to share.
More Than Just Politics
While governance is a core theme, this blog will serve a much wider purpose. Our communities are built on the hard work of activists, entrepreneurs, and volunteers, and I intend to use this platform to amplify their voices:
Community Activism: I will be highlighting the grassroots movements and local heroes who are driving positive change in our neighbourhoods.
Business Promotion: Local commerce is the lifeblood of Surrey. I want to showcase the incredible businesses that call our county home, from high-street stalwarts to innovative start-ups.
Voluntary & Charitable Sector: We owe a debt of gratitude to our community groups, charities, and non-profits. I look forward to "shining a light" on their vital work and the impact they have on our daily lives.
Setting the Record Straight
In an age of rapid-fire digital communication, rumours and misrepresentations can quickly take root within a community. From time to time, I will use this space to debunk myths and clarify misinformation. By providing factual, evidence-based commentary, I hope to offer a clear-eyed perspective on the issues that matter most to you.
My goal for this blog is to demystify the transition process, provide a platform for honest dialogue, and ensure that as our administrative structures change, the voices of our residents remain at the heart of the conversation. I hope you’ll join me as we navigate this new chapter for Surrey together.
